General News Thank You And Goodbye
After many years of success I have made the decision that due to personal reasons I have unfortunately decided the current version of TICK and Sound Control will be the last. With regret, this means Vista operating system support will not be implemented. The web site will remain open for the time being and support questions will still be read and answered if time permits. I am not totally discounting future versions but I currently do not have the energy, time, willpower or interest to continue these projects. It has been a difficult past few years and I wish to thank all users for their support and past interest in both TICK and Sound Control. When I think back to 1998 when I made the first public release of TICK (as it is called now) and back to 1999 for the first public release of Sound Control I have received great joy from these projects especially in the early years of development. If you wish to contact us please use the
Contact Us facilities as all other email contact has been disabled. Thank you and goodbye (for now).

Web Site News Server Problems
Regular visitors have no doubt noticed that over the past couple of weeks the site has been experiencing difficulties. These problems started when the host company decided to migrate my account to a new server without my knowledge. This then involved me updating the domains so they resolved to the new server which causes a couple of days of the server appearing to alternate between up and down whilst these changes were propagated. The problems over the past several days have been caused by the new server suddenly having some kind of problem which resulted in no scripting being executed causing incomplete or even blank pages being served to visitors. I have since implemented a workaround but the original problem has still not been resolved and the server appears to be sluggish and unreliable at times. Please use the
Contact Us facilities if you find any problems or to provide feedback on the speed/reliability of the new server.

General News Email Containing Attachments From Really Effective
Due to the ongoing email bombardment from viruses please remember that Really Effective never sends any emails containing attachments unless they have been explicitly requested or agreed. Many viruses use techniques that gather email addresses from infected machines searching Address Books or recently visited web pages and then randomly falsify emails so it appears they have been sent from a known trusted source. If you receive email that claims to be sent from Really Effective and it contains an attachment you did not request delete the entire email without opening or previewing immediately. The email will not have been sent from Really Effective.

General News TICK Plus Update (2)
The full rewrite of TICK is progressing well however slower than expected due to other more important commitments and continued illness. Quality, reliability and ease of updating are the most important factors in future releases which I hope all will agree are essential for success. Several people have contacted me to be early BETA testers and a release is due to made in the coming weeks to get initial feedback. The expected release due during November wll now be more likely during the Christmas period but if my condition improves this may change. If you want to be considered as a BETA tester please contact me using the e-mail address at the end of this page. If you do not wish to be a BETA tester but still have feedback remember not to hold back and let your opinions known now rather than later.

If you have any functionality you particularly use in TICK or new features you would like to be considered please provide feedback by using the e-mail address at the end of this page.

General News Development Of TICK Plus Started
Development of TICK Plus was started over this weekend period after several months of Analysis and Design. The basics of the new graphical user interface has been completed. The new interface has a more standard/updated feel and has the potential of being themed in Windows XP. Several ALPHA and BETA releases will be made over the coming months and functionality in this total rewrite from the ground up will be gradually added as soon as previous features have been confirmed as complete. As my main connection to the Internet is now made through a router expect this release to also support this connection type. If you still use a Dial Up Networking connection don't worry this should also be supported. If you have suggestions/requirements you would like to be considered please ensure you let me know by using the e-mail address at the top of this page.

Web Site News Server Up
After a couple days of downtime I am pleased to announce the site is virtually back up and running apart from a couple of teething problems which should be sorted out soon. Due to the time required to moderate the forums these have been removed for the time being. If you experience any issues do not hestitate to use the e-mail address below and provide details of the problem.

Web Site News Server Down
The server hosting the Really Effective pages is currently experiencing some problems. The host company is investigating and hopefully service will return to normal soon. If the problem is terminal they will be taking the opportunity to upgrade to a new server this will obviously cause an extended outage. The problems seem to be mainly affecting e-mail so for the time being I suggest using the forum until the e-mail service has returned to normal. As Newsletter subscription relies on e-mail you may also experiencing problems receiving confirmation replies.

General News We Need Your Suggestions Now
Many thanks goes out to the two individuals who have been the first visitors to post to the support forum. As you may or may not be aware both TICK and Sound Control are in the process of undergoing a major rewrite. If you have any suggestions please ensure you post to the relevant forum. You do not need to register to post to the forum if you do not wish too. So all suggestions are available in one location any previous suggestions that have been sent via e-mail should be reposted to the appropriate forum to ensure they are considered. All suggestions will be read but unfortunately it can not be guaranteed that they will all be implemented.

Release News TICK v1.15
After a couple months of both internal and public BETA testing TICK v1.15 is now available to download. The main and only change since TICK v1.10 is support for data transfer functionality in Windows 2000/XP. Please note only limited testing has been carried out in the following operating systems due to the limited response from Windows NT4/95/98/ME users to the BETA test release. It is recommended that users of these operating systems use TICK v1.10. This will probably be the last release of TICK in it's current format. Look out for a brand new totally rewritten version coming soon featuring even more flexibility and functionality. It is expected the next version will support Windows 2000 and above only due to the limited number of users with older Operating Systems.

Web Site News New Design

The site is now database driven which will make it easier to update which will lead to more application releases, pro-active information on the status of BETA's and better support via FAQ's and a new forum. Over the coming months you can now expect updates to Sound Control and TICK together with hopefully some brand new applications.

Release News TICK v1.11 (BETA)
After several weeks of having to request this BETA via e-mail it is now available via a direct download link for wider BETA testing. The single but significant change in this release is support for Data related functions within Windows 2000 and Windows XP. You can find details on how to download by clicking the appropriate link under the BETA heading in the menu.

General News Application Update
You have probably noticed the addition of a Shareware* category in the menu bar. Currently this is empty but the plan is to release a series of brand new applications building on the success of Sound Control and TICK. *It has not been decided whether these new applications will be released as Shareware or not. Since the release of Sound Control and TICK as freeware e-mails containing feedback have been greatly reduced (not the effect I wanted) but downloads of both applications have increased dramatically. The future of Freeware is in your hands.
