After Running The Application Missing DLL / Common Control Errors Are Displayed?
This error is usually displayed when you have not installed the latest patches and updates from Microsoft for your Operating System. The following updates are generally the minimum required to ensure the applications will run with no DLL errors. You should ensure you only install an update that is required for your Operating System. For example, the Dial Up Networking update is for Windows 95 only it is not required for other Operating Systems. Newer Operating Systems generally do not require any additional patches or updates for the applications to run.

How do I turn off the Automatic Disconnect functionality?
If TICK is automatically disconnecting your connection to the Internet you can reset this functionality by setting the four text boxes in the Options - Miscellaneous - Disconnect - Hang Up (Set Use Any Time) to zero - 0. Also remember if you plan to be on-line for more than 24 hours adjust the Date/Time above these settings after you have connected.

Can I Carry Out Enhanced Log File Analysis Within Spreadsheets, Databases and Direct Access?
If you wish to carry out analysis on your call log that TICK does not directly provide specific support you have two options available.

TICK allows you to export the call log as a comma separate file. This function is available by right clicking on a call log entry, selecting export followed by detail. You will be prompted to enter the location and filename of the file you wish TICK to create containing your call log. This file can then be imported into the most popular spreadsheets and database applications. These applications can then be used to further report on the data that TICK has collected.

TICK does not currently support the batch adding of records to the call log. The call log file is stored in a file call log70.bin which can be found in the \TICK\Logs folder. TICK has been developed in Delphi (Pascal) and the structure of the log record has been included below.
typLogInformation = record
  Start, Finish: TDateTime;
  Cost_With_Discount, Cost_Without_Discount: Real;
  Mode: integer;
  Data_Transferred: Cardinal;
  Connect_Speed: Cardinal;
  Connectoid_Name: string[20];
  User_Name: string[25];
  Deleted: boolean;
end;
{Mode = 0-Auto, 1-Insert, 2-Edit, 3-Adjust, 4-Rcvrd, 5-Discon}
No support can be given on accessing the call log directly.

TICK / Sound Control Has Expired Or Requires A Registration Key?
If your version of Sound Control or TICK has or is about to expire or is requesting a registration key you must download the latest version to remove both of these limitations. If you are a Sound Control user click
here alternatively TICK users should click here. Both applications now contain no fixed expiry dates, no requirements for registration keys and are 100% freeware.

How Do I Backup My Configuration?
The application settings are stored in the registry at the following key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Really Effective. Use regedit to locate and highlight this key folder (or specific sub folder if you have more than one Really Effective application installed). Select Export Registry File from the Registry menu specifying an appropriate filename. Settings can now be recovered by double clicking on the generated file, by right clicking and selecting merge or by loading regedit and selecting Import Registry File from the Registry menu depending on your version of regedit. This procedure is only recommended for experienced computer users. If you are planning to transfer your settings to a new PC you must be running the same base platform - for example, Windows 2000 to Windows 2000 is compatible but Windows 2000 to Windows 98 is not. If you are not familiar on how to use the registry or you do not know how to backup/restore before making changes it is not recommended you follow this procedure.

I Have Added A New DUN Connectoid But It Is Not Being Listed In TICK?
DUN connectoids are not continually refreshed when TICK requires a list of available connectoids. The side effect of this is when TICK is launched a list of the current DUN connectoids are cached. Listing the DUN connectoids is a very CPU intensive operation. Caching these details enable the Options and Log's screen to display many times faster than previous versions of TICK expecially in a Windows 2000 environment. If you exit and restart TICK the DUN list is updated and your new connectoids should be listed.

When Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Is Installed Tick Does Not Operate As Expected.
TICK does not support Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). There are no future plans to add ICS support. You may find TICK will function to some degree on the 'server' - i.e. the machine making the dial up networking connection.

I Have Reached The Maximum Limit Of Excludes Within The Auto Notification Functionality?
If you have many favourites you should categorise them in to folders (e.g. Search Sites, Companies, Technical etc.) and use the Auto Exclude feature to ignore the favourites which should not be checked. The Auto Exclude feature does not use any of your standard exclude entries. For example if you wish to automatically exclude all favourites within a folder called 'Search Sites' add "\search sites\" (without the quotes) to the Auto Exclude list.

I Have Enabled The Intelligent Last Updated Option In Web Notification But It Does Not Seem To Be Doing Anything?
The Intelligent Last Updated option allows you to take better advantage of sites which return last updated header information. In TICK prior to v0.50 the size of the web page is calculated each time to see if an update has been carried out. With the Intelligent Last Updated option enabled if the site does not contain frames the last updated date header only will be used to calculate if a page has been updated and the page will not be downloaded to check the size. This means checking for updates is much quicker if you have many sites which support the last updated header. If the site contains frames or if the last updated header is not available the page is still downloaded so the URL's of the framed pages and the size can be found. The first time you run Web Notification the system needs to find which pages contain frames and which do not, this means you will only gain the benefit of this option after the Web Notification tool has processed the URL once to detect if frames are present or not.

Not Enough Decimal Places Are Being Used?
Generally, TICK carries out all its calculations using at least seven or eight decimal places if entered even if less are displayed. If TICK is not displaying enough decimal places (they are set to your Windows default values automatically) they can be changed in the Options - Display - Decimal Places options screen.

I Use The 640x480 Display Resolution And I Cannot See The OK and Cancel Buttons.
Unfortunately some of the configuration screens either only just fit or are slightly bigger than this screen resolution. In these circumstances the "Return" and "Escape" keys carry out the OK and Cancel button operations respectively. Alternatively if you have your taskbar at the bottom of the screen temporarily resizing it may display enough of the configuration screen to see the OK and Cancel buttons. Using a higher display resolution (e.g. 800x600 or above) will permanently solve this issue. This problem is fixed in TICK v0.55 where the Log, Options and Tools windows are now fully resizable.

I Use Large Fonts And TICK's Configuration Screens Are Difficult To Read.
This is a known problem and a workaround is currently being investigated for a future version. In the meantime if you are unable to read the options you must use the small fonts setting. You may find resizing the configuration screen helps.

The Auto Disconnect After Idle Feature Incorrectly Activates (Or Does Not Activate) Even Though I Am Actively (Or Not Actively) Using The Internet Connection?
Some Internet Service Providers continually send small packets of information to the user informing them if e-mail is waiting for collection or not. TICK adjusts for this information and under certain circumstances this may cause the auto disconnect on idle feature to malfunction. Symptons include either displaying the disconnect option when an active connection is being processed or not displaying the disconnect screen at all. It is suggested that you test these features of TICK to ascertain their functionality with your ISP before relying on them.
